DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
 
Lewisham Gateway will deliver a more vibrant better connected Lewisham. For this regeneration to be effective, the roundabout will need to be removed and the road network relocated around the site. This will allow the creation of an exciting new development at the heart of Lewisham town centre, creating new jobs and homes for local people. 1. Links the stations with Lewisham town centre 2. New pedestrian-friendly routes to the north and west 3. Opening up the rivers Quaggy and Ravensbourne to create an attractive riverside park – Confluence Place 4. New light, open and safe shop-lined pedestrian routes

PROJECT TITLE                Druid Street (Streetscape Improvement works)

 DATE OF COMPLETION                   May 2006 DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

The works involved design, consult and implementation of a socially inclusive space on Druid Street (North) that provides streetscape improvements that balance the needs of the residents in terms of parking and access with a partial road closure, turning point, cycle faculties and Landscaping including a “pocket park” area. The works were divided into three phases:
 Phase 1The construction of new parking bays along Barnham Street. The construction of a n entry treatment on Druid Street at its junction with Tooley Street.  

Phase 2

The construction of a mini roundabout on Druid Street, realignment of the pavement on Lewis House and resurfacing and paving works on Druid Street from the base of the new roundabout to the junction with Tooley Street. Phase 3The construction of an unsegregated shared use pedestrian and cycle path on the east side of Druid Street. Breaking out of the hard standing and the creation of a soft landscaping area south of the roundabout to the closure at the junction with Druid Street (west).

 DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

The works involved design, consult and implementation of pedestrian facilities to LSS Borough Road and its junction with Harper Road and general highway layout improvements and traffic signals. The works were divided into four phases:
 Phase 1The construction of ducts and draw pits for the new traffic signals, this to be installed across each road under lane closures.  

Phase 2

To construct the new central island, this involved excavating the existing island, construction of dropped crossing point and the installation of tactile paves. Phase 3

To resurface the carriageway with Stone Mastic Asphalt.

 Phase 4To pave the unsegregated shared use pedestrians and planters to be installed.

To design and consult stakeholders and public on the proposed traffic management schemes within the City of Brighton. These measures varied from bus lanes, traffic light priority, junction improvements and parking restrictions.
